Audacity in the Classroom
Teachers are finding Audacity to be excellent free recording and editing resource. The software can be used to meet a variety of outcomes in a all of subject areas. It is a great tool to use in second language classrooms.

Examples of Multimedia Projects using Audacity
1. Mashup Audacity project; this project is created by Kevin Schuchmann, he is a business and computer education instructor in the West Delaware County Community School District in Manchester, Iowa. Students will create a mashup (creating a sound file that blends two music files into one), using at least two different song resources.

2.Audacity Ringtones; this project is created by Kevin Schuchmann as well. Students will be creating three ring tones using Audacity, and uploading at least one to your cell phone. The learners will create edit a music file and create a ringtone based on the rubric provided.

3. Real American heroes Project; this multimedia project is created by Tonya Skinner, a teacher at Jackson Senior High, in Miami Florida. Students will create a school-appropriate “real heroes” project for some obscure “person/job” of their choice.

5.Multimedia Bellringer; this is a project to introduce Audacity. This multimedia project is created by Tonya Skinner. Students will show their editing skills in Audacity on a file given by the teacher.

6.Audacity radio Commercial “Smell Be Gone”; this multimedia project is created by Tonya Skinner. Students will have to create a radio commercial about a product called “Smell Be Gone” using a script, sound effects, and background music.

7.Audacity Music Mix.This project is created by Tonya Skinner. The students’ task is to create a mixof a minimum of 5 songs (more is okay) linked together on a common word. The goal is for the songs to sound like they were meant to connect. Special effects (fade in, fade out, echo) should be used to achieve the result.

Students work for a music group and their job is to create a radio ad that convinces listeners to buy the CD.
